Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. In fear of stress, her parents did not want to see performing before she reached the age of 18. Perry says she didn't want to be an actor in high school but decided to take up playing as a way to make friends while at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University moved into New York in search of acting roles on television. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, homesickness drove her to California to find theater work. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway together for the play The Other Place, in 2013. She performed with their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on the ABC drama The Family, in 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal that starred her dad. In the same year, she appeared as a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. She got the part in an audition that was open despite being a fan of this character.
